Totten Consulting is grounded in Abbie's decades in managed care and health policy, sharpened by Gene's data science lens. Innovative and grounded, because we've had to be both.
Abbie Totten
Before founding Totten Consulting, Abbie spent her career inside the health care industry itself — deep, hands-on expertise in managed care, alongside health policy and organizational leadership, owning budgets, answering to boards and regulators, and living the same real-world constraints our clients navigate every day.
What travels beyond managed care is her method: ask the right questions of the people closest to the work until the larger picture comes into focus, then build the strategy from there — which is why it applies as readily to a provider or a wellness organization as it does to a health plan. That depth of experience is what brings most of our clients to the table in the first place.

Gene brings an analytical dimensionality — a background in data science and analytics — that augments Abbie's managed care and health policy expertise.
The data informs every recommendation; it never overrides the judgment of the teams doing the work. Gene's role is to make sure every strategy is grounded in evidence as well as experience.
Gene holds a Master of Science in Data Science & Predictive Analytics from Northwestern University (2014) and earned his Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from the University of Minnesota (1999), establishing a strong foundation in behavioral research that complements his quantitative analysis expertise.
